Handel in the North End of Boston

Got some down and dirty images for a night concert of the Messiah last month....nice event ! Packed with holiday enthusiastic music lovers, neighborhood folk, and maybe even a few fortunate tourists....The concert took place at St. Leonards Church, right in the very heart of the historic North End, Boston. The area is known as one of the city's oldest authentic neighborhoods....with the most compact tapestry of fine Italian restaurants anywhere North of New York City's, Little Italy.

You never know how many Handel lovers there are until you attend a free holiday concert in a quaint picaresque part of the city where incidentally the best Italian food north of NYC can be found across the street. The concert was co-presented by the North End Music and Performing Arts Center along side Boston Landmarks Orchestra....several accomplished soloists, a children's and professional choir, local soloists and other people of note.

I got the chance to get some good to very good images of the "stars"- because i had a clear shot...as well as some lucky shots of the young choir members and singers whenever i could....Picture taking in crowded spaces always has its challenges or course, and you have always have to temper the need to deliver some choice images with not being a pain in the neck to either the audience or the performers....

Took a video camera with me that day, had planned to get a bit of video, but as luck would have it, couldn't use because of Union restrictions...Might have well been a blessing in disguise, since only the area(s) available for placement really were tight - space wise-.and might have well gotten knocked over or tripped upon by an audience member...had i actually used that night....

The conductor, Christopher Wilkins, was quite animated and spirited ....which thankfully allowed me to capture some memorable shots when his movement and the camera shutter meshed in synchronicity...
